ERDAS Compressed Wavelet Protocol (ECWP) is a very powerful, streaming imagery solution that is layered over standard HTTP and which provides image data on demand from compressed ECW or JPEG 2000 image files. The ECWP protocol provides significant performance enhancements over other protocols because it uses streaming technology with local caching and real-time pan and zoom. This can provide much faster response, significantly reduced network traffic, and reduced server load.
JPEG 2000 Interactive Protocol (JPIP) is a streaming protocol for fast image delivery over a network. It is only available for use with JPEG 2000 images. JPIP streams are delivered over standard HTTP and provide image data on demand from a compressed JPEG 2000 image. Any JPEG 2000 file format can be streamed over JPIP.
