Searching Geographic Names Using Search in the Sidebar

To search the geographic names:

1. In the sidebar, click the Search geographic names tab.
2. In the Name field, type a name to search for and click Search. Search results are displayed in a table.

   

   Pins showing the locations of found geographic names and objects appear on the map.

   

   

   • When using the Search geographic names panel, there is no change in scale.
   • Pins are not highlighted in 3D mode.
   • The style of pins may vary and depends on the Geospatial Portal theme used. Additionally, the appearance of pins and fonts for the results of a geographic names search for a 3D map control may be configured by the Geospatial Portal administrator.    The search results contain buttons that let you do the following:

   Icon	Name	Description
   	Show on map	Center the map on the selected location, but the map scale is not changed. The pin for the selected object is highlighted.
   	Display on map	Set visibility on the map either on or off.
   	Feature info	Display a window with feature information about the object.

   Hovering over an item in the list highlights the pin.

3. To restrict search results to the actual area of the map window, check Only in map extent.
4. To remove search results, click Clean. Only pins corresponding to search results performed by using the Search geographic names dialog box will be removed. The pins for Live Search results will remain on the map.

   The Only in map extent option is available for selected types of services.
